Position Title: ESL Teacher
Supervisor: Coordinator of Educational Services
Status: Part time (15 hours per week), hourly, starting at $14.00

Journey's End Refugee Services, Inc. is a refugee resettlement and immigration services provider for the Western New York Region. Journey's End works to assist newly arriving refugees to find gainful employment and avoid dependency on social services.

Job Description:

The Pathways ESL Teacher's primary responsibility is focused on the development and implementation of the ESL curriculum aligned with New York States' Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) standards. Classes are held Monday-Thursday 9AM - 12PM at Journey's End. Additional hours on Friday may be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement the ESL curricula and activities to meet academic standards.
  • Develop level appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies addressing all aspects of communication that enhance each student's ability to read, write, speak, and listen in content areas at levels that ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets.
  • Use assessment data and reflection to refine curriculum and change instructional practices.
  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development and grade-level activities.
  • Coordinate and operate arrangements between JRCHC and JERS for the purpose of providing Economic Development assistance and training for the Office of New Americans.
  • Attend all staff meetings and common JERS responsibilities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or Bachelor's degree with two years' experience.
  • Valid New York State Teacher certification preferred.
  • TABE Test Administrator preferred.
  • Best Plus Test Administrator preferred.
  • Experience working with the refugee population or in a diverse classroom environment
  • Possess the ability to be flexible, creative, and willing to collaborate with other teachers.
