Position Title:               Language Facilitator (Somali Speaker)

Supervisor:                   Microenterprise Program Manager

Pay:                              $14 per hour 

Status:                         Temporary, per-diem, 0-20 hours per week

Journey’s End Refugee Services, Inc. is a refugee resettlement and immigration services provider for the Western New York Region. Journey’s End works to assist newly arriving refugees to find gainful employment and avoid dependency on social services. 

 General Duties:

  • Provide language support (oral interpretation, simple document translation, etc.) to Journey’s End Refugee Services staff and clients as they participate in the Child Care Microenterprise Program.
  • Perform oral (spoken) communication of a message from one language to another.
  • Language Facilitators should be complete, accurate, neutral, impartial, and avoid conflicts of interest when interpreting or translating a message.

Additional Duties:

  • Language Facilitators may also be asked to perform Sight Translation – the oral (spoken) communication of written text into another language (reading aloud).
  • Language Facilitators may be asked to provide additional support to staff and clients including, but not limited to:
    • Making phone calls to clients
    • Assisting with bus training
    • Completing paperwork
    • Attending off-site appointments
    • General office duties as required.
    • Other duties as assigned.


  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation in both English and target language (Somali).
  • Knowledge of appropriate terminology to perform the job effectively, and commitment to continuously learn and understand new terms.
  • Effective verbal and written language skills in both English and designated target language(s).
  • Basic computer skills and email communication.
  • Organized, professional, and reliable.
