Community Outreach Intern

Job Description:

The Community Outreach Intern will assist with the day-to-day running of the Community Outreach Department which includes the volunteer program, donations and community engagement. The intern will work 10-15 hours per week under the supervision of the Community Outreach Team. Hours are available M-F from 9AM-4PM, adjustable according to school calendar and availability.

Duties may include:

  • Assisting with daily program needs; Helping organize and run special events
  • Assisting with the weekly newsletter of volunteer opportunities that will be sent to current volunteers
  • Planning for increased efficiency and sustainability of the program
  • Inputting new volunteer data into the database
  • Inputting donations into database and generating Thank You letters for Executive Director's signature
  • Additional projects are available (eg. assisting in the ESL classroom, working with the JERS Women's Group, etc.) according to the intern's professional interests and experience
  • Other assistance as needed


Minimum qualifications and expectations:

  • Current graduate or undergraduate student
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google applications
  • Professionalism, dependability, honesty, and punctuality
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Adaptability to a rapidly changing environment

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An interest in the daily functioning of non-profit organizations
  • An interest in Buffalo's refugee population

This is an unpaid internship. A portion of the intern's time will be dedicated to their personal educational development including a thorough training in Journey's End and its mission. Copy machine, wifi, and other tools are available. Free parking.
