GET Manufacturing Teaching Intern

Hours Required:

10-20 hours per week for 3 months. Hours available between 1:00 - 3:30pm M-F.

Position Description:

The Gainful Employment Training Program at Journey’s End Refugee Services aims to equip members from the refugee and immigrant community of Buffalo with technical manufacturing skills. The aim of this program is to restore dignity and empower these individuals to gain full-time employment at the junior or senior level in local manufacturing plants.

The Manufacturing Teacher Intern will be responsible for assisting in instruction of manufacturing-based classes from Monday-Friday 1PM-3:30PM under the supervision of the GET Program Manager and the Director of Education. Experience co-teaching is an asset. The ideal candidate is eager to work with the refugee and immigrant population of Buffalo, self-directed and able to work in a team environment.


  • Assists in delivering lessons, adapting curriculum, and providing case management to students.
  • Co-teaches with the Program Manager to ensure delivery of content and lessons outlined in the grant.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares materials and supplies for class
  • Provides additional assistance as needed


  • Current graduate or undergraduate student majoring in Education or another related field preferred.
  • An interest in teaching and adult education.
  • No prior experience in manufacturing is needed.
  • Bilingual language ability preferred.
  • Desire to work with refugees and other immigrants.
  • Professionalism, dependability, confidentiality, and punctuality.
  • Adaptability to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills for working with people from other cultures and with limited English.

Intern will gain:

  • Teaching and classroom management observational experience.
  • Experience working with the refugee population and learning the concerns and issues thereof.
  • Professional feedback and guidance.

Journey’s End supervisors will:

  • Communicate with intern about learning goals and outcomes.
  • Train and evaluate intern.
  • Provide proof of attendance, if needed.
