Buffalo Beginnings Needs Supplies
Posted on 01/20/12
Journey's End Refugee Services is heading up a new program called "Buffalo
Beginnings" for K-12 students who are waiting to be placed in the BPS.
This program will be run at and in cooperation with the Buffalo State
Community Academic Center, located at 214 Grant St (on bus route 3). It
will take place Tuesday through Thursday, 10-12, starting January 24th.
This program will serve as an introduction to American schools, culture,
and the education system as a whole, using the BRIA "Welcome to Our
Schools" curriculum. Our goal is to help the students become more
comfortable in a classroom setting and to have a basic set of English
phrases at their disposal before they show up for school. We are also
attempting to run a similar program with basic ESL for the children's
parents at the same time, but we are still trying to find a space.
At this time we are in need of program supplies. We would greatly
appreciate any of the following items:
• Construction paper
• Crayons and markers
• Glue
• Rulers
• Scissors
• Line paper
• Play money
• Basic phonics, reading, numbers, colors workbooks or manipulative
• Blocks (legos)
• Toys
• Books
• ETC…
