Journey’s End is a §501(c)(3) not-for-profit refugee resettlement agency in Buffalo, New York. We are a community-based organization with the mission of providing refugees and immigrants with the resources and support they need to become successful, active and contributing members of our shared community. The Immigration Legal Services (ILS) Program offers immigration legal services to immigrant New Yorkers in need, including representation on matters before U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) and Buffalo Immigration Court.

Job Description

Reporting to the Direction of Immigration Legal Services, the Supervising Attorney will assist in the management and development of the Immigration and Legal Services (ILS) Program that offers full-scale holistic immigration representation to low-income refugees, asylees and other vulnerable immigrant populations. The Supervising Attorney will directly supervise, mentor, and train all Staff Attorneys in Journey’s End’s satellite offices in Rochester and Binghamton. This position will require bi-weekly travel to satellite offices at a minimum.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations of Immigration Legal Services Program satellite offices in Rochester and Binghamton

  • Directly supervise Staff Attorneys in Rochester and Binghamton offices, and ensure personnel needs are met in conjunction with Human Resources Specialist

  • Provide direct complex affirmative and defensive immigration legal services to clients

  • Organize and conduct community outreach and education, employee training and mentoring, and partnership development

  • Work in conjunction with Director of Immigration Legal Services Program, additional Supervising Attorney, and senior department staff members on policy development and data collection processes relevant to achieving overall agency goals

  • Participate in and assist in the development of community partnerships and state-wide initiatives and endeavors that benefit the ILS program and its clients

  • Act as resource and a decision-maker for other Journey’s End programs and staff

  • Enhance the image of Journey’s End in the community and participate in Journey’s End sponsored events

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Admitted to practice law in the State of New York

  • Minimum 5 years experience in practicing immigration law

  • Ability to be oversee a dynamic team of talented and dedicated individuals

  • Strong written communication, oral communication, and organizational skills

This is a full time and salaried position. Benefits and retirement package are included. Candidates that have three or more years of experience as an attorney, two or more years of immigration law experience, and the ability to communicate in a language other than English are preferred.
